Guanajuato Impressions

The state of Guanajuato hosts wonderful facettes in colonial heritage and presents amazing natural and culinary aspects to its visitors. This program can serve as a part of Mexico’s colonial region to be integrated in an itinerary starting in Mexico and to be extended easily up to San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas, for then to be completed in circuit with other Mexican states around, like Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Michoacán or San Luis Potosí.

Day 1: Arrival In Tarandacuao

Coming from Mexico City (airport or hotel) we arrive in Tarandacuao, where we will be hosted in cozy cabins surrounded by a fantastic garden!

Day 2: Kayak, Springs & Ceramic – Hacienda Overnight

In the morning, we head for great Presa Solis water reservoir, where we board our Kayaks  to cross one of the panoramic water sceneries over to enter one of the creek branches which feed the reservoir, and which here has formed a fantastic canyon. Enjoy the slow pace in letting yourself flow on the Kayak whilest you have views on the high rimms, flora and fauna. A wonderful countryside picknick awaits us then at some hot springs to relax our muscles in the warm water, for then in the afternoon to proceed for a hacienda style hotel in the countryside of Guanajuato state.

Day 3: Siete Luminarias – Comanjilla

After breakfast we head for Valle de Santiago town and its fertile surroundings, where the so outstanding Siete Luminarias are located, extinct volcano craters of great beauty. We will visit two of them, one with an ambiance of moon landscape, and the second to get wonderful views during a short hike, for then to have a rural lunch at town people’s house. Evening arrival is in Comanjilla and nice garden hotel, also for there to enjoy the thermal spring pools to fully relax from today’s challenging physical activity!

Day 4: Guanajuato Heritage Jewel

A full day excursion for today goes to Guanajuato capital city of the federal state with the same name. Guanajuato is UNESCO World heritage due to its mining past, from which grew this very characteristic town with its old silver mines, the underground streets and the irregular pattern in streets, a result of Guanajuato’s location in a narrow valley.

Day 5: Prehispanic Roots & Colonial Art

In today’s route for San Miguel de Allende, we visit the prehispanic site of Cañada de la Virgen, a ceremonial place of mesoamerican toltec-chichimecan culture. Not only the ancient temples and plazas are beautiful, but so is also the setting in a river basin surrounded by panoramic view hill landscape. Then in San Miguel de Allende have a relaxing town walk to discover this second UNESCO World Heritage town in program, full of colour, art and bohemian galleries and cafés.

Day 6: Altars, Wines & Mines

Outside San Miguel de Allende is located Atotonilco town with Nazareno church, which   hosts some of the most precious religious art in Mexico to see in this route. Finish Guanajuato state visit with a relaxing moment at a rural winery with tasting and lunch, for then in route for neighbouring state of San Luis Potosí still to have stop in Magical Town of Mineral de Pozos with its ancient metal furnaces from the Jesuits who christianised the town in the colonial era.
