About:

The monarch butterfly sanctuaries in Michoacán are iconic spots that attract thousands of tourists and scientists every year, due to the impressive migration of these butterflies from Canada and the United States to the Mexican forests. Among the most outstanding shrines are El Rosario, Sierra Chincua and Senguio.

The Sanctuary of El Rosario, located in the municipality of Ocampo, is perhaps the most famous and visited of the three. Visitors can walk its well-maintained trails, which make it easy to observe butterflies in their natural habitat. El Rosario also has strategic viewpoints from which you can take spectacular photographs.

On the other hand, the Sierra Chincua Sanctuary is located near the town of Angangueo. This sanctuary is known for its accessibility and the possibility of horseback riding, which adds a unique dimension to the visit. Sierra Chincua is home to millions of monarch butterflies during the months of November to March, and offers panoramic views that allow you to appreciate the magnitude of the migration.

The Sanctuary of Senguio is located in the municipality of the same name. This sanctuary is characterized by its dense oyamel forests, an ideal habitat for monarch butterflies. Senguio offers visitors the opportunity to observe large butterfly colonies covering the trees and ground, creating a stunning visual spectacle. In addition, it has well-marked trails that allow an immersive experience in nature.

The presence of these sanctuaries in Michoacán not only highlights the ecological importance of the region, but also underscores the need to protect these crucial habitats for the survival of the monarch butterfly.Together, El Rosario, Sierra Chincua and Senguio represent natural treasures that continue to amaze and educate those lucky enough to visit them.
