Michoacán is one of the most beautiful regions in the world, known since 2000 as “The soul of Mexico”.
Michoacán is located in the Western Center of the Mexican Republic. The largest cities in the state are Morelia (state capital), UNESCO World Heritage City, Pátzcuaro and Uruapan, linked to the world thanks to an extensive communication infrastructure (airports, land transport, inbound tourism operators), which make it easy to reach from anywhere in the world.
It is one of the states richest in lakes, forests and other natural beauties, for example, the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries, the Paricutín Volcano, the Eduardo Ruíz National Park, the Lake Camécuaro National Park, as well as the Patzcuaro, Zirahuén or Chapala lakes, which receive a remarkable migration of pelicans that travel from the northern hemisphere during the winter; and the Michoacán Beaches, where they come to spawn three species of turtles: lute, golferina and negra.
The real Mexico, with its colors, flavors, traditions and customs is found in the various regions of the state, on the Don Vasco Route, in our 10 Magical Towns: Pátzcuaro, Tzintzuntzan, Santa Clara del Cobre, Tacámbaro, Paracho, Tlalpujahua, Angangueo, Cuitzeo, Jiquilpan and Cotija. As well as the viceregal cities such as Morelia and Zamora.
Michoacán is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, such as the Historic Center of Morelia, Traditional Mexican Cuisine, the Michoacán Paradigm, Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries, Pirekua, the singing of the Purépecha people, the Night of the Dead Celebration and the Flyers of San Pedro Tarímbaro, in Tlalpujahua.
Michoacán may be the country’s leading producer of handicrafts, so visiting the artisans is another way to get to know the state, as is sampling the delights of traditional cuisine. Witness la noche de muertos, the customs of semana Santa, Domingo de ramos, or any of the other traditions and fairs that abound in the calendar of festivities, as well as encounter the history of this town.
