Day 1: Mexico City
Arrival at the airport in Mexico City and transfer to the hotel. Lodging.
Day 2: Mexico City- Teotihuacan
Departure to visit Mexico City, where the Plaza de la Constitución or Zócalo stands out, surrounded by buildings of great architectural, artistic and historical value, such as the National Palace (exterior), the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Templo Mayor Azteca (exterior). We will visit the main avenues with their monuments, as well as the Diego Rivera Mural Museum to admire his work “Sueño de una tarde Dominical en la Alameda Central” (Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Central Alameda). We continue with a panoramic visit of the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, located in Tlatelolco. This was for the Aztecs the most important market of their empire, because it was possible to get a great variety of products. We continue our excursion to the archaeological site of Teotihuacan, the mysterious city of the gods, where we will visit the gigantic Pyramid of the Sun (built in the 1st century), the Pyramid of the Moon (built in the 2nd century), the Avenue of the Dead, the Citadel with the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Palace of the Butterflies. Lunch. On the way back to the city, visit the modern Basilica of Guadalupe. Rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Day 3: Mexico City- Tula- Queretaro- San Miguel de Allende
Departure to Tula, the Toltec city that flourished between 900 and 1200, where we can appreciate its pyramids and the Atlanteans. Continuation to Querétaro, the “Pearl of the Bajío”. A very important city during the struggle for Independence, today considered a World Heritage Site. Visit of the city to appreciate its numerous baroque style buildings, dating from the XVII and XVIII centuries, located in the historic center. Continuation to San Miguel de Allende. Visit of the city, where its beautiful colonial mansions and the Neo-Gothic Cathedral stand out. Lodging.
Day 4: San Miguel de Allende- Atotonilco- Dolores Hidalgo- Guanajuato
Departure to Guanajuato, passing through the town of Atotonilco to visit its Chapel built in the 16th century and whose ceilings and walls show the encounter and fusion of European and pre-Hispanic culture. This place is of particular importance, since at the beginning of the War of Independence, the insurgent troops gathered here to form the flag that carried the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Continuation to Dolores Hidalgo, cradle city of Mexican Independence and where the tomb of the famous Mexican singer-songwriter José Alfredo Jiménez is located. In the late afternoon, we will arrive in Guanajuato, visit the city that is a World Heritage Site, to see the Monument of the Pípila, the Juarez Theater, the Union Garden, the Plaza del Baratillo, the University, the Hidalgo Market, the Callejón del Beso and the Alhóndiga de Granaditas. Day 5: Guanajuato- Tlaquepaque- Guadalajara
Departure to Tlaquepaque, which is undoubtedly the largest pottery and glass blowing center in Mexico; here you can admire the most varied popular handicraft manufacturing, as well as its picturesque streets where you can choose to have lunch in “El Parían”, a large square with many typical restaurants and where you can’t miss the Mariachis. Free time at leisure. Continuation to Guadalajara, arrival and lodging.
Day 6: Guadalajara- Tequila
Departure to the Tequila region, where the oldest and most traditional drink in Mexico, “Tequila”, comes from its denomination of origin. We will visit one of the haciendas dedicated to the production of this drink. There will be a tour of the processing plant and you will be able to taste the tequila that is produced there. Return to Guadalajara for a panoramic visit of the city, founded in 1542. The city has many buildings dating from colonial times to the Porfiriato. Among others, the Cathedral, the Cabañas Hospice and the Government Palace stand out. Return to the hotel.
Day 7: Guadalajara- Chapala- Tzintzuntzan- Patzcuaro- Morelia
Departure to Lake Chapala, the largest natural lake in Mexico, surrounded by mountains. Visit Chapala, and continue to the State of Michoacan to reach Tzintzuntzan, Purépecha capital, which we will visit briefly. We continue our way to Patzcuaro, one of the most beautiful towns in Mexico. Visit and free time. Its typical squares Vasco de Quiroga and Gertrudis Bocanegra, invite you to stroll among popular scenes and a great variety of handicrafts. In the late afternoon, departure to Morelia, a World Heritage City, which welcomes visitors with its 253-arched aqueduct. Lodging.
Day 8: Morelia- Tepotzotlan- Mexico City
Visit Morelia, known as “the City of Pink Quarry” which has one of the most beautiful examples of Hispanic American Baroque architecture of the XVII and XVIII centuries, including the Cathedral (Baroque exterior and Neoclassical interior), the Plaza de Armas, the Government Palace, the Clavijero Palace and its monumental Aqueduct Palace, the Clavijero Palace and its monumental Aqueduct. Departure to Tepotzotlán, for a brief visit of this beautiful town with its Baroque church (today the National Museum of the Viceroyalty). In the afternoon, we continue to Mexico City, arrival and drop off at the hotel of your choice.
