Cadereyta de Montes is the characteristic town of the semi-desert of Queretaro. It was named a Magical Town in 2011 and is a traditional provincial municipality with old saddleries that work leather in different ways.
In Cadereyta there are two greenhouses of great prestige in the country for their unequaled variety of cacti and succulents that they protect: the Botanical Garden, which promotes the protection of the species of flora that the state has in its different regions, and the Quinta Fernando Schmoll Greenhouse, with one of the largest collections of cacti and succulents in the world, operating for a century in this place of Queretaro’s semi-desert.
The great attractions of Cadereyta are located near the town, where you can find special places to rest, such as the Tzibanzá Island, in the middle of the waters of the Zimapán Dam, which in addition to rest allows water activities such as boat rides or sport fishing; Or even unique activities in the state as in the aerodrome, where there is the possibility of parachuting or scenic plane rides through the semi-desert, even flying over the Peña de Bernal and enjoying this region in an incomparable way.
In addition to the wineries located in the municipality, such as Viña del Cielo -ideal to spend a night as a couple, enjoying its wine cellar or a horseback ride among the vines, even hot air balloon rides- and Hacienda Tovares -a colonial hacienda that today is an exclusive boutique hotel with various activities throughout the year-, a pretext to visit Cadereyta is also to try the delicious barbecue that is customary in various parts of the municipality, But especially that of the community of Boyé and its recognized flavor throughout the state of Querétaro, to the point of having a fair dedicated to this dish of lamb meat during the third week of September, attended by dozens of barbecue families to delight visitors from various parts of the republic to taste and eat what for some is the best barbecue in the region.
Of course, Cadereyta’s main garden is a good place for a Sunday stroll, especially for people who enjoy religious tourism, admiring the temples of San Pedro and San Pablo, which are so iconic for the postcards of the center of this Magical Town.
Finally, for adventure, Cadereyta has several destinations to enjoy hiking and nature, such as the Cañón del Caracol, in the community of MaconÃ, in the forests of the community of El Doctor, or the caves in the community of La Esperanza to the north of the municipality.
