About:

Amealco, since its appointment in 2018 as Pueblo Mágico, has become a favorite destination for travelers passionate about traditions and nature, because in this place the customs and the indigenous past coexist with the tourist offers related to ecotourism and gastronomy, nowadays.

Much of the success of this beautiful Magical Town, surrounded by forests and meadows that give a unique beauty to the municipality, is the brimming artisan life, embodied mainly in the rag dolls of Otomi origin, Lele and Dönxu, which have represented the roots of Queretaro, but also the state and the country beyond national borders.

For nature, visit the Yospi Peaks and the legends behind this site. Walk through La Beata Natural Park, visit the waterfalls of La Piedad, or hike the Cerro de La Cruz, especially during the firefly-watching season between July and August.

If you like religious tourism, the parish of Santa María de Amealco, the old temple of San Ildefonso, or the chapel of Lagunas de Servín are places to consider on your trip, but if you like to try the local gastronomy, the mole de guajolote, the barbacoa, the chicharrón de res and the pulque of the region are not to be missed.

To immerse yourself in the artisan life of Amealco, you can visit the Otomi family workshops, where they will show you the process of making the Lele and Dönxu dolls, and you can even participate in the making of your doll, but you can also find workshops of clay or traditional medicine in some of the Otomi communities, which are near this Magic Town, such as Santiago Mexquititlán and San Ildefonso Tultepec.

Of course, a place like this is not lacking in places to spend the night, so lodging options within the town, in a rustic or modernly designed cabin in the woods, will always be available.
