El Cielo Biosphere Reserve
Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and one of the wonders of Mexico , the "El Cielo" Biosphere is the most spectacular protected natural area in northeastern Mexico.
In this reserve you can find fossils of marine life , as well as archaeological remains and a wide diversity of flora and fauna . At night, in the clearest areas, you will be amazed by the magic of its sky where you can relax listening to the wonderful sounds of nature.
You can also do various ecotourism and adventure tourism activities such as kayaking, rappelling, hiking, boat rides, camping, mountain biking, bird watching and zip-lining. It has around 144 thousand 539 hectares and is made up of four municipalities: Gómez Farías, Ocampo, Llera and Jaumave.
Visitors to the “El Cielo” Biosphere Reserve will find various types of vegetation, from Gómez Farías to the upper section of the cloud forest. In this part you will find orchids and endemic trees, the caves found in Ejido San José and Joya de Manantiales and part of Alta Cima.
Those who wish to go deeper into the observation of nature, it is highly recommended that they hire a guide who knows the flora and fauna that exists within the reserve, so that they realize why "El Cielo" is a World Heritage Site.
