Fiesta de la Candelaria

Tuxtla Chico, is a municipality on the border with Guatemala, known for its izapeña culture, for its many traditional mosaics. It is called by many as the Land of God or the Land of the Machetes.

To speak of Tuxtla Chico, is to speak of cocoa as the drink offered to the gods, is to speak of homemade bread, is to mention the arqueological site of Izapa and its history. It is a party, it is colorful, it is faith, it is religiosity, it is devotion.

The mysticism to the month of February, month of its “Virgen de Candelaria”, is the month where the sun and the clouds are conjugated. Where the hearts of the locals get ready to celebrate their patronal feast.
