Firefly Sanctuary

About:

Tlaxcala shines at night from June to August. With the arrival of the rains to the Tlaxcala forests, the night fairies repare to begin the last stage of their life cycle: reproduction. This is how around 20:30 hrs. Small flashes of light are glimpsed that magically multiply until achieving an impressive spectacle in front of the spectator's eyes.

Every year, these beetles (which are actually beetles) turn on their lights in the forest to reproduce in a language of light and love. An impressive and unique detail is the exact synchrony of the fireflies turning their lights on and off, when all the males have finally left in search of a mate.

This area of more than 200 hectares offers ideal humidity and feeding conditions for the larvae.

It is important to mention that we need to follow the recommendations issued by the authorities, since the firefly sighting is a totally natural phenomenon where the weather conditions will allow us to have a good sighting.

Dare to enjoy a unique experience by entering the cold coniferous forest, accompanied by the silence of the night and an expert guide. In the world there are more than 2,200 species of which 228 live in Mexico.
