Mineral de Pozos
About:
An enigmatic town that has its origins in the Chichimecs land, it was once part of the mining abundance of the Viceregal and Porfiriato period.
In the 1590´s, the construction of the Santa Brigida furnaces began for the exploitation of gold, silver, and mercury. Now they are one of the most important tourist attractions in the area along with other important haciendas such as Santa Elena and mines like Cinco Señores and el Triangulo.
Centuries later, with its mining vocation came the appointment in 1897 as Ciudad Porfirio Díaz and with this distinction came the railway, electricity, telegraph, and steam machines for mining.
The religious and civil architectural heritage originates from two moments, the foundation of the first religious college in 1590 and during the Porfiriato in the XIX century. One of the emblematic elements is the neoclassical parish church of San Pedro Apostol from the XVII century, Plaza Zaragoza and the old model school design for Luis Long.
The first warehouse of “Fabricas de Francia” in the country existed here and there are still vestiges that can be visited on the main street.
There is a varied gastronomic offer, with recipes that rescue their ancestral traditions with ingredients as exclusive as Escamol.
An unmissable attraction is to tour the lavender fields, where you can learn about the products that can be made from this plant and you can do other activities such as horseback riding, hiking, and visiting the mines.
The history museum, the town access are spaces with interesting information for visitors and have recreational and gastronomic activities.
