San Joaquín

San Joaquin is a Magical Town located in the Sierra Gorda Queretaro, known for its cool climate and wooded landscapes that surround this small town of mining origin, but its main characteristic is its huapango passion, which has given it the nickname of “cathedral of huapango”.

This beautiful town of great tradition has been holding the National Huapango Huasteco Dance Contest for more than 50 years. Hundreds of couples from various states of the country come to compete for the championship, dancing for a whole weekend and well into the night, filling the Magical Town with great joy and celebration.

Among the must-see attractions of San Joaquín are the impressive Los Herrera Caves, full of pareidolias that emerge from the stalactites formed in this great passage into the bowels of the mountain. Also, very close by is the Ranas Archaeological Zone, one of the best preserved and most important in Queretaro.

In addition, the Campo Alegre National Park is an excellent space surrounded by forests where you can camp freely and enjoy the fresh air around you, and if you are looking for a place to enjoy the panoramic view of the town, head to the Mirador de La Crucita, to take a good picture of the picturesque town and enjoy its colors.

Just 10 minutes away from the municipal capital, the community of Las Maravillas allows you to enter the forest and walk towards a series of waterfalls that are a visual delight for nature lovers.
