Located in the Mundo Maya Capital Region to the east of the state, 169 km from the city of Mérida; and only 40 km from the archaeological zone of Chichen Itzá.

Founded as a town by Francisco de Montejo in 1543, it is a charming colonial city that invites you to enjoy its cultural and natural riches. In the city you can visit the picturesque and fascinating municipal market, the “San Bernardino de Siena” convent, which is considered the second largest convent in the Yucatan Peninsula, and its light and sound show at night, the Municipal Palace, the Church of “San Servacio” in which a couple of historical events took place, such as “The crime of the mayors”. Besides the fact that in one of its towers there are the cannons that were used to recover the city in 1848, from the hands of the rebel Indians who started the War of the Castes, the church of “Santo Domingo de Guzmán” has a very peculiar design, since stars and rosettes in red and blue were used for its construction, which makes it a unique building, the Museum of “San Roque” in it are exhibited pre-Hispanic pieces of the region, documents and diverse pieces which have great relevance in the foundation of the city, the Museum of Ethnic Clothing which exhibits typical clothing from various regions of the country, as well as several colonial buildings that today they welcome you to stay. Among the cultural options you will find typical crafts of the region, as well as a variety of options to taste Yucatecan cuisine.
