Magic that Encloses the Jungle: the route of the Tuxtlas in Veracruz
The majestic and enigmatic jungle of Veracruz is one of the virgin regions of our country. Tourism in the Tuxtlas region deserves an experience that connects with mystical and exuberant nature.
This point enchants its visitors with the magic of its ecosystems, its pre-Hispanic vestiges, its colonial heritage, its rich traditions, and its irresistible gastronomy.
Two hours by road, from the City of Veracruz, are Santiago and San Andrés Tuxtla; colonial places with houses and buildings painted entirely in white.
In the case of Santiago Tuxtla, it is recognized as having one of the first sugar mills in Continental America, the San Francisco and San Gabriel, founded in 1525. In Santiago, you can visit the Tuxtleco Regional Museum where archaeological pieces and the colossal head The largest Olmec that have been found, are installed in the town hall’s parade ground.
In San Andres Tuxtla it is a delight to know the semi-virgin beaches such as Playa Escondida, Montepío, Costa de Oro, Arroyo de Lisa, and the famous Roca Partida. There is also the Salto de Eyipantla waterfall with its scenic viewpoint.
The last stop is Catemaco, a young city; declared as a free municipality in 1985 and known for being the land of sorcerers. The first Friday of March is one of the popular attractions in the region; however, the offer abounds in buildings such as the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the Statue of the Fisherman, and the Clock Tower.
On the boardwalk, among the song of the riverside birds, you can embark on a visit to the Isla de los Monos and the Isla de las Garzas. However, an almost mandatory experience is to visit the Nanciyaga Ecological Reserve.
Nanciyaga has an ecological hotel where you can make mud masks and take baths with mineral water (nanapaqui), which exfoliates and cleanses the skin. They can also cleanse you and get rid of bad energy. There are guided tours along trails and the opportunity to sleep in beautiful and comfortable cabins to listen to the sounds of the jungle.
The regional gastronomy, offered inside the hotel, is an explosion of flavors: Mojarra al Tachogobi with chilpaya chile, Tegogolos (river snails), fried cassava, and wood-fired bread.
Enjoying in union with nature is a unique opportunity found in Veracruz. Swimming in spring, sailing through the Catemaco lagoon, and admiring the flight of the macaws that sing and fly, makes you enjoy the spectacle of life.
